It’s that time of year when the Autumn Winter Collections hit the high street and I’ve been keeping an eye on some of my favorite labels to see if I can spot anything I fancy for my winter wardrobe.
Often ridiculed for its connotations with keyboard football hooligans and general small town Saturday heroes, Stone Island remains a label that intrigues me and one that continues to push the boundaries in terms of innovative material and forward thinking design. The AW16 collection doesn’t disappoint and appeals to me because of its understated and almost subdued style. Something perhaps that will help to turn off the sixteen year old “hoolies.”
Even the famous badge logo has been toned down and given an all black look; in this instance semi hidden by a beautiful piece of pocket detail…
The crew neck navy knit from where this detail comes from is one of my favourite pieces of the collection…
As ever it is with their jackets and coats where Stone Island have really excelled, once again bringing us unrivalled innovation and expert use of material. The 42833 Raso Gommato Metal Cover Reversible Jacket is one of the highlights for me, giving you both the option of understatement or outright extrovertness with the reversal function…
The hooded jacket has a Raso Gommato Metal Cover with military specification cotton satin on one side with metallic polyurethane cover on the other side for a water and wind resistant effect. It’s garment dyed through double colour recipes with the addition of a special anti-drop agent and of course reversible.
My sensible side is on the look out for a traditional trench coat this winter as well, and this David Trenchcoat caught my eye in the collection (right)…
Beginning with a light star-shaped polyester/polyamide substrate, the garments are sewn and then simultaneously garment dyed and treated with an anti-drop agent. During the dye process, under pressure at 130°C, the fabric undergoes heat induced compression, radically transforming its hand and body for a truly unique tactile experience. It has a detachable ultra-light nylon lining, padded with the finest feathers.
The parka (left) isn’t too shabby either!
All in all the SYAW16 collection is something to behold and if only I had infinite wealth I think I’d be snapping up several pieces. For a full look at the collection, take a look at the official preview video…
