adidas By Raf Simons – The RS Stan Smiths
Since first teaming up in 2013, adidas and the esteemed Belgian fashion designer Raf Simons have been hellbent on pushing the boundaries when it comes to both classic and contemporary footwear silhouettes. Some I’ve loved, some I’ve loathed, but their latest collaboration I’m quite a bit fan of.
Taking inspiration from Trompe-l’oeil, each vintage trainer is photographed, 3D mapped and subsequently printed onto its own individual Stan Smith to create something completely new, whilst paying homage to some of the most important adidas silhouettes from the past. Acting as a blank canvas, the trainer’s minimal detailing and clean lines provide the perfect opportunity for distinguishing features and authentic worn in markings – such as stains and exposed glue – to be showcased to full optical illusion inducing effect.
The adidas by Raf Simons RS Stan Smith launches both online & in store at Aphrodite on the 12th of April at 9am.
